What is Dekard?
Dekard is a mobile app for tracking values in games, primarily aimed at TTRPGs.
It is a companion tool to character sheets to keep track of various in-game
values that change often, such as health, spell slots, item uses or other
consumable resources, but it is flexible enough to track just about anything.
FAQ
- What platform is Dekard available on?
- Dekard is available on both iOS and Android devices. It can also be
installed on Mac computers, though the experience is optimized for
mobile devices.
- Do I have to pay for Dekard?
- No, Dekard is free with limitations. By default you can only create
one card. You can raise this limit in the app through in-app
purchases, which allow you to raise or remove this limit. You can
raise the limit twice, and the second raise is larger than the
first, but at the same price. Removing the limit entirely becomes
cheaper the more limit increases you have purchased.
- I've already paid on another device, do I have to pay again?
- You can restore purchases from the Purchases screen if you are on
the same platform, iOS or Android, where you made the previous
purchase. Purchases do not transfer between platforms.
- Can I use the turn tracking for all the characters in a battle without buying a card limit increase?
- Yes, if you only need the names of characters or NPCs in turn
tracking mode, you can add Placeholder Cards that do not count
towards your card limit. These cards only consist of a name and an
optional icon, and cannot track values.
- Can I ignore certain cards in the deck when using the turn tracker?
- Yes, in the upper right context menu for a card you can toggle "Use
in turn tracker" to ignore or reenable the card for turn tracking.
- Can I share my cards?
- Cards live exclusively on your device and are not shared automatically with
anyone else. You can however export cards to files and share those files with
others, who can import them into their own Dekard app.
- Can I use Dekard offline?
- Yes, Dekard does not require an internet connection to function,
since the cards are all stored locally on your device.
- Does Dekard support multiple languages?
- At the moment the app is only available in English, but information
in the cards themselves can be written in any language.
- What are templates in Dekard?
- A template is any card that resides in the special Templates deck.
These cards are not "playable", meaning you cannot change values
such as checking boxes or modifying numbers, but you can edit their
configuration however you want and copy them to playable cards. To
create a template, just press "Add deck" while in the Templates
deck. Note that some templates come built into the app itself and
cannot be edited or deleted, but you can always make an editable
copy of them.
- Can I remove the examples?
- Yes, you can remove individual example cards or remove the whole
deck. You can always restore the examples again through the
"Restore examples" option in the app menu.
- Can I change the color theme?
- Using the app menu you can switch between a light and dark theme,
or set it to follow the system theme. Having a selectable theme on
individual cards is currently not possible but is on the development
roadmap.
- When editing, can I delete multiple trackers at once?
- Yes, you can long press on a tracker in edit mode to select it, and
then tap other trackers to select them too. At the bottom of the
screen you will see a delete icon.
- Can I make a copy of a tracker?
- You cannot "copy and paste" a tracker, but you can choose to copy a
tracker from any card, including the current, when adding a new
tracker. You can also duplicate a tracker by long pressing on it in
edit mode to enter multi-select mode, and then tap the copy icon at
the bottom of the screen.
- How do I reset a numeric tracker to its maximum or minimum value?
- There are multiple ways, but to reset to the maximum values you
must first make sure the tracker has a configured maximum value.
If the tracker has +/- buttons enabled in read mode, you can long
press the + or - button to reset the value to its maximum or
minimum. You can also add a button tracker to a card and configure
the numeric tracker to react to that button by zeroing or maxing
out its value.
- How do I change what trackers are visible in the card list in deck view?
- In the read view of each card, tap the context menu in the upper
right corner and select "Choose list info". Note that some
trackers, such as switches, will only show up in the list if they
are in the "on" state. Likewise, tags and options will only show up
if something is selected.
- Why do I see an icon in the list view for some trackers and the label for others?
- To save space the icon is used if available, but if the icon is not
set the label will be used instead.
- Why is there a fixed set of icons available to select?
- The icons are chosen to be relevant for TTRPGs, generic enough to
fit many circumstances, and most importantly available on many
devices, including older phones. Future versions may allow you to
select your own icon with the on-screen keyboard, but be aware when
exporting cards that the icons may not render properly on other
devices.
